Arthur Junior #6 SHOPPING, Wil, Switzerland, 2016
Engraving on 1 kilo silver with 1 embedded blue sapphire, 11 x 12 x 4.5 cm Currently on display at Stadtmuseum Wil, Switzerland

This piece was created for the Shopping edition of Arthur Junior project in summer 2016. Each participating artist had received a 1'000 franc banknote as a budget for the creation of a site specific artwork. The money could only be spent on Obere Bahnhofstrasse.

Argent is a banknote created for the city of Will. Engraved on a kilo of silver, it shows the symbol of Wil - a bear - depicted as queer with masculine as well as feminine attributes. The bear holds an H&M bag and an iphone - two very globalised types of items. A blue sapphire has been placed on its eye. The sapphire emphasises the globalism of Obere Bahnhofstrasse as the stone can only be found in distant countries, partially the ones where mass produced items are made. On the sides are all the names of the shops on Obere Bahnhofstrasse, which have been engraved as a record of mainstream material culture.

Investing money in precious metals and jewels instead of spending it on other types of objects has conserved its original monetary value. Additionally the engraving has increased the value of the object even farther by adding the unicity of a work of art.

With special thanks to Wipf and Stadtmuseum Wil.
